Throwers shine at 2016 Ohio State Meet

PART_1465953334593_Screenshot_2016-06-14-21-01-19A handful of Northwest Ohio Throws Acadamy athletes recently competed at the Ohio State Hammer Championships on June 5, 2016 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus. Several throwers performed well, including 2 state champions.

On the boys side, Bowling Green junior Nick Lane led the way by finishing as the overall champion with a distance of 210’3″. Eastwood freshman Erik Fertig was the Division 3 champion, and 7th overall, with a distance of 167′. Fertig also finished as the top freshman in the state, regardless of division. Eastwood sophomore Dalton Andrews finished 3rd in Division 3 and 13th overall. Wynford junior Seth Hoffman and Pandora-Gilboa junior Kyle Verhoff finished 17th and 18th, respectively.

On the girls side, Riverdale junior Carrol Pauley finished 2nd in Division 2 and 3rd overall with a distance of 153’1″. Liberty-Benton junior Livie Smelcer finished 3rd in Division 1 and 8th overall with a toss of 129’3″.

A few athletes had previously qualified for the state championships in the shot put and discus.

Carrol Pauley finished 4th in the Division 3 girls discus throw with a distance of 139’2″. Woodmore sophomore Analicia Torres finished 5th in the Division 3 girls shot put with a mark of 42 feet.

Nick Lane finished 7th in the Division 1 boys shot put with a distance of 54’4.75″. He also finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 154’11”.
