Throwers compete at Findlay

Several Northwest Ohio Throws Academy athletes posted strong performances at the University of Findlay’s M-F Athletic High School Invite this past Sunday, February 25. You can find complete results here.

Leipsic senior Grace Rigel posted a winning mark of 50’1″ in the girls weight throw for the best distance this season in Ohio. It also qualified her for the elite weight throw section at New Balance Nationals. Rigel added a 3rd place distance in the shot put with a throw of 40’11”.

Sophomore Tyler Arbaugh or Van Buren won the boys weight throw on his last throw of 61’3″ edging out his club-mate junior Erik Fertig of Eastwood by one inch. Erik’s 61’2″ came on his opener. The top three boys weight throwers from Sunday are the top three throwers in Division 2/Division 3 heading into the state meet.

A newcomer to the club this month, junior Noah Mattson of Ada had a 2 foot personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 44’5″. Mattson’s distances in both shot put and weight throw this season would have qualified for the state meet, but Ada High School does not officially compete in indoor track and field.

Several NOTA athletes will be next in action this weekend at the Ohio Indoor Track and Field Championships.
