Coach Carvalho has over 30 years of successful throws coaching experience at every level: elementary, Jr. High, High school, college (D1/D2), post collegiate, and masters.
In addition to track he coached high school varsity football and high school varsity wrestling; and over the past 30 years has also been a strength and conditioning coach, working with all sports as well as the general population.
Northwest Ohio Throws Academy was established in 2007 as a grassroots program to offer elite level coaching to anyone, specifically youth athletes. Coach Carvalho’s goal has always been to use his knowledge and experience to help youth athletes reach their potential sooner and to experience a higher level of coaching at an early age. He also strives to stay on the cutting edge of sport performance and athletic development, continuing to learn more and more year in and year out.
Since 2007 Coach Carvalho has coached 52 total Ohio high school State Championship titles, and 2 Michigan high school State Champions. Additionally, he has coached 9 high school throwers to the USA HS Indoor National Championships, 4 athletes to the USA HS Outdoor National Championships, 2 throwers to the Jr. Pan Am Championships, and 1 to the Jr. World Championships.
His athletes also hold 3 Ohio, high school State records, 3 State Meet records,1 National record and 1 all time top 10 performances.
As a college coach at Bowling Green State University, 1 conference champion and 4 athletes to the division 1 reginal championships, and 3 school records. Then later at the University of Findlay, he coached 20 division-2 All Americans, 4 National Champions, and 1 athlete to the World University Games. These athletes also broke multiple school records.
As a post collegiate coach he has helped 5 Olympic-Hopefuls qualify for the US Olympic Trials. As a masters coach, he has helped 3 athletes to qualify for the USA championships, and 1 national champion.
Justin holds bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Sacramento State University, and a Master’s Degree in Biomechanics/Motor Development form Bowling Green State University. He has been USA Track and Field
and USA Weightlifting Level 1 certified and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
